MARINE PROTECTED AREA PROJECT
The Oceans Need Direct Action And We Need Your Support
Please Help Us Build A Marine Protected Area
We Need Sponsors, Donations Or Simply Come And Dive With Us
Over the last two decades, the natural resources of our oceans have suffered from the impact of unmanaged human activity including; intensive coastal development, pollution, curio trade, the overuse of marine resources, and climate change.
These resources belong to a region of enormous biological richness that we are still discovering and learning about.
Dive Tribe is committed to acquiring the scientific knowledge required to properly implement sustainable practices throughout the region.
Support from scientists and their research will allow us to correctly investigate, assess, manage and conserve our natural resources.
Dive Tribe a conservation organisation based in Pattaya Thailand began in 2010 with one goal, to protect and preserve the marine environment with a “No Compromise Attitude”. It’s CEO Gwyn Mills has been working on a number of campaigns and projects and in 2011 organised the largest shark release in Asia if not the world. A total of 60 sharks were released, Black Tip Reef Sharks and Brown Banded Bamboo Sharks to help raise awareness to the destruction of sharks at the hands of the shark fin trade. The campaign made world wide headlines from Europe all the way to Australia and there began the start of probably the most well known conservation organisation in Thailand with over 20,000 people world wide looking in on their facebook page at videos and pictures of their work.

Since then Dive Tribe have worked on installing artificial reefs after being given permission by the DMCR and Thai Navy to do so, a shark tagging program working with several well known universities, a state of the art mooring buoy installation system to protect coral reefs, Ecological Monitoring Programs which allow us to collect data that will protect reefs, seahorse conservation sites and awareness programs at local schools and dive centres.
The Marine Protected Area Project
Dive Tribe have been working at a sustained development plan to secure the health of the ocean, the seas and islands in Pattaya.
They have already been installing mooring buoys to protect the coral reefs and these have been a great success and have reversed the cycle of degradation on the immediate reefs they were installed to protect.
Part 2 of the plan was to start to regenerate the coral reefs, using a mixture of artificial reefs and growing small fragments to replace the damaged reef, again this has had an 80% success rate and we are continuing to install more coral reefs in the area.
Part 3 has been to begin a monitoring program of the reefs and surrounding areas and this has started with the Ecological Monitoring Program. We want to take a stock list of everything on the reef and then look at what stressors are affecting it and how we can put right the problems that it now faces.
Part 4 is to work with the DMCR to begin protecting the reef and its inhabitants from boat and jetski traffic.
We have looked at ways that all of the businesses that work in and around the area can work together safely and we will soon be presenting our initiatives to the Town Hall and islands owners.
To have a marine protected area will mean that the marine wildlife will have a safer and healthier reef for them to reproduce and the resources of the area will be better managed and laws will be enforced to protect its inhabitants.
We would like to see:
1. All boats in the area fitted with boat propellor guards (This will protect swimmers, divers, turtles and dolphins)
2. No stepping on coral reefs
3.No Touching Wildlife
4.No Feeding Wildlife
5.No Jetskis or speedboats in buoyed reef protected areas
6.No littering or bringing disposable plastic to the area.
7.Non removal of wildlife, dead or alive.
8.No Spearfishing on reefs or wrecks.
9. No recreational fishing on reefs or wrecks
10.No Commercial Fishing within 3,000 meter perimeter of islands
11.No Anchoring on the reef
We realise this is going to be an uphill battle but already we are beginning to see that local authorities are interested in the proposal and Tourist Authorities of Thailand are now looking for ways to boost the image of Pattaya.
A UK MP that has worked on creating other MPA's has also offered to help us with our project and we are hoping that with your support we can make this a reality.

How Can You Help ?
1st we are looking to talk with anyone in Thai real estate about the possibility of developing the island in an eco friendly fashion.
We are always going to have visitors to the island so we must lessen there impact and make it educational for them when they come. We are interested in putting in a visitors centre, restaurant and recycling facilities a range of small stores that are all low impact and that can also provide a small revenue stream for further conservation work.
If you know of anyone that may be interested in such a project then do please get in touch below.
Secondly we would like to get a list of quality sponsors to help us with our equipment list which will help us study and further protect the islands. These include light and temperature data loggers, vandorm water samplers, underwater air hammers, Colorimeters, waterproof GPS, Go Pro Camera systems etc.
Just recently a company called "Dragon Capital" from Vietnam paid for the mooring drilling equipment and sponsored several mooring buoys to protect the reef and sponsors "Sharkskin Asia" also provided Dive Tribe with all the special protective wetsuits. We would like to hear from Dive Manufacturers, Local Businesses or anyone that may be able to help us realise our goal, maybe you know some one that could help , please let us know !
Dive Tribe have also made many friends in the Marine Conservation business and these have supported and donated funds toward us purchasing the necessary equipment to continue our work.
Could you spare a few dollars as a one time donation or a monthly donation which will allow us to keep our lab functioning , continue to protect Sharks, Turtles, Dolphins and our precious reef.
It would be great if all our facebook fans could donate just a dollar a month, we would be able to get the job done in double quick time and move on to protecting the next island.
Come and dive with us or sign up to one of our taylor made marine conservation packages.
When choosing to dive in Pattaya please consider diving with us , the profits from your dives go back into keeping us running the lab and classrooms and continuing our marine conservation education programs.
Any other ideas on how you could help us realise our goal of protecting the island Koh Sak in Pattaya do let us know, you help is vital to our success.
If you would like to sponsor or dive with Dive Tribe you can contact them through their CONTACT US Page
If you would like to make a donation to help us protect our island then you can do so at the bottom of our SOS page.
Thank You For Your Help I Hope Soon We Can Bring You Some Great News !!!
